For many Indigenous nations, children and elders are the most important people in the community. A cradleboard used for carrying a child was designed to be tied to a horse or leaned against a vertical surface so the child could breathe in the air and observe the world around them. In this way, young children became participants in the community from their earliest days, observing or partaking in daily tasks and rituals.
