Overview
The daily lives of Indigenous peoples are not easily separated from their religious lives. For them, the earth is not just a resource, but a living entity and a sacred space. They believe that everything in the world, living or non-living, has a soul. Each tribe has developed in its own legendary stories and ceremonies related to establishing relationships with various spirits from nature. Their efforts are aptly illustrated in tools used for rituals, including masks, small figurines like katsina, and paintings depicting ceremonies. Indigenous artists have painted not only dances, a form of religious expression, but also dramatic scenes from several rituals.
