This painting on cotton muslin depicts a group of Indigenous hunters chasing a herd of buffalo. Millions of buffalo, considered essential to the lives of Indigenous peoples from the Plains region, were slaughtered by settlers, nearly causing their extinction. This intentional act caused many Indigenous peoples to starve and disrupted their cultural and religious ways of life.
