Overview
Fascinated by the landscapes of the Great Plains and Indigenous cultures, American artist Joseph H. Sharp spent several years in Montana painting the Plains tribes such as Blackfoot, Crow, Dakota, and Nez Perce. He moved to New Mexico of the American Southwest in 1912, where he dedicated himself to painting the local environment and the life of the Pueblo. This work depicts Pueblo men holding drums and a rattle, likely representing a community dance or ceremony the artist witnessed.
