Inspired by Western and the life of Indigenous peoples, Charles Craig spent several years living with various tribes. His close observations of their lives and culture were captured in his paintings with detailed accuracy. As depicted here, the Uncompahgre Ute lived in tipis and traveled seasonally, following and hunting buffalo, deer, and elk.
