Overview
The people lived in regions of the American Southwest that are now known as the states of Colorado, Utah and New Mexico. They made pottery by using the coiling method, which involved layering long, rolled coils of clay. Once the coils were stacked to create the desired form, the inner and outer surfaces were smoothed with special tools. The surfaces were decorated with geometric shapes inspired by natural elements. Pueblo people today continue to make pottery using the same methods and materials as their artistic ancestors.
