This jar was made by potters from the Zia tribe living in the state of New Mexico in the American Southwest. The Zia are known for their use of bird imagery in their pottery. Sofia Medina and Lois Medina, who produced this jar, painted the birds on in an effort to continue the traditions of the Zia.
