Under the influence of settlers, the Navajo people have developed the values of traditional textiles by adding a new twist, as shown in these two examples. These blankets are characterized by the use of all the brightly colored yarn, and the woven patterns create the illusion that the textiles are vibrating. Such textiles are called “eyedazzlers” because of the patterns that dazzle the eyes when viewed. Navajo blankets made in the eyedazzler style were popular from about 1880 to 1900.
