Navajo weavers tried to move away from the traditional methods of blanket making, particularly in the 1880s and the early 1900s. They experimented extensively with their looms, using yarns in a variety of colors. This marked a departure from their previous practice of using primarily natural or hand-dyed yarn in limited colors. Blankets like this one with complicated images like the trains and a trading post were produced.
